The anti-Trujillo military expedition of Cayo Confites is intercepted on the high seas by Cuban Navy frigates under pressure from the Dominican dictator and the United States government. The expeditionaries are forced to disembark in the port of Antillas, in Oriente. Fidel manages to evade the arrest by escaping on a raft with Dominican Ramón Mejías del Castillo (Pichirilo) and two other fighters. He arrives in Venezuela to meet with student organizations to organize a Latin American Student Congress in Bogotá, Colombia. He visits Plaza Bolivar and several newspapers and attempts to arrange a meeting with Venezuelan President Rómulo Gallegos.
Venezuelan newspaper El País publishes an interview with Fidel by journalist Omar Pérez under the title: "Cuban students will support the struggle against colonialism in Bogotá".
He leaves Venezuela for Panama where he meets with several students to invite to participate in the organization of a Latin American Student Congress. He remains in Panama for three days.

He enrolls in private education to take and pass the remaining subjects in his law degree.
He speaks at an Orthodox Party meeting in Santiago de Cuba a few days before the presidential elections won by Carlos Prío Socarrás. His words are broadcast on the radio.
