Almost 200,000 doses of the vaccine against seasonal flu have been so
far administered to Cubans since the beginning of the vaccination
campaign started on April 1, Deputy Public Health Minister Luis Estruch
stated.
The 80 percent of pregnant women have already been immunized, Estruch said, recalling the country expects to vaccinate 1,124,000 vulnerable people.
The vaccination, donated by the World Health Organization, is of great quality and effectiveness, and may cause some adverse reactions, assessed by experts of light, he noted.
Severe headaches, pain at the injection site, and discomfort are among the most frequent problems. Neither dangerous case, nor deaths have been so far produced.
An increase in respiratory afflictions associated to the circulation of the A(H1N1) flu virus has been noticed in the last few weeks, a situation that does not tally with what we are observing in the rest of regional countries, Estruch said.
People should be alert and maintain all hygiene measures as hand washing with soap and water frequently, cover mouth and nose to sneeze or cough, and avoid contact with sick people.
