Angola, Cuba Friendship at MPLA Congress

Cuban Communist Party Political Bureau member Leopoldo Cintras Frias stressed Tuesday in this capital the unshakable friendship between the peoples of Cuba and Angola, started by historic leaders Antonio Agostinho Neto and Fidel Castro.
Addressing on behalf of Cuba in the Sixth Congress of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), the also member of the Council of State stated that relation strengthens and materializes in collaboration in health, construction and education.
"We bring a message of greetings and solidarity from the Cuban Communist Party and its people to this Congress by commanders Fidel and Raul Castro: to always notify that independently of our difficulties, the Angolan people can rely on the Cuban brothers," Cintras Frias said.
"The 20th anniversary of that historic moment was reached only few hours ago, and the Cuban people, in presence of President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos, paid tribute and laid a wreath in our land to more than 2,000 internationalist combatants fallen in Angola," the island's high official noted.
The remains of those Cuban compatriots were buried in their beloved land in that operation, ennobling with their decision and dedication for the liberation of Angola, the also lieutenant general said.
"Cuban combatants shared with their Angolan brothers the difficult combats of Quifangondo, Cabinda, Ebo, Kangamba and Bie, until concluding with the victory of Cuito Cuanavale," he noted.
In front of more than 2,000 delegates and 600 national and foreign guests attending the congress, delegations from Namibia, South Africa, Guinea Bissau, Zimbabwe, Republic of Congo and Palestine, expressed gratitude for the Cuban solidarity with the peoples worldwide.
A Cuban delegation, presided over by Cintras Frias and comprised of Political Bureau member and Cuban ambassador to Angola Pedro Ross Leal, Cuban Communist Party Central Committee Division General Ramon Pardo Guerra, and Central Committee member Sergio Fernandez, attend the MPLA Congress as a guest.
The event takes place at the Belas' Conference Center.
