Commander in Chief Fidel Castro visited the National Center for Scientific Research (CNIC), within the framework of celebrations for the 45th anniversary of this institute, a precursor of others in the capital’s scientific area.

At the CNIC, founded on July 1st, 1965, he was received by the center’s general director, Dr. Carlos Gutierrez, and by three of its main executives, the Juventud Rebelde newspaper reports on Sunday.

When the news about Fidel’s presence at the CNIC was spread, its workers crowded around him and gave him an affectionate and spontaneous welcome, and the Cuban leader repaid them with words of gratitude.

The CNIC was the first scientific center founded by the Revolution. It has trained over 20,000 specialists in various branches and other important institutions have emerged from it, like the Center for Agricultural and Livestock Health, the Center for Immunoassays and the Center of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, continues the report, which adds that many of the scientific, technical and managerial leaders of other research centers in the country were also trained there.

At present, the CNIC is part of the Higher Education Ministry of the Republic of Cuba, devoted to scientific research and with great development in the spheres of natural, biomedical and technological sciences.

The center has the mission of solving, with quality and scientific rigor, the country’s biomedical and technological problems of economic and social importance, and to create scientific products that can be highly competitive on the market. In order to accomplish this goal, it carries out the full cycle: research, production and marketing.
