The exhibition "Fin a la Injusticia" (End to Injustice), about the lives of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly held in the United States, will be opened today at the Museum of local customs in this capital.
The exhibit, sponsored by the Administrative Office of Cultures and the Cuban embassy in La Paz, will coincide in time with the 14th anniversary of the imprisonment of the Cuban Five, as they are universally known.
Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Gerardo Hernandez and Rene Gonzalez were detained in September 12, 1998 and after biased trial held in Miami, they were condemned to harsh sentences, especially Gerardo, who was sentenced to two life terms plus 15 years.
Rene Gonzalez has already completed his prison term, but must remain for three years on supervised release in the United States.
The Five monitored plans by terrorist organizations financed by the United States and based in southern Florida, with the intention of reporting them to Cuban authorities.
Their anonymous actions frustrated many actions such as the illegal entry of firearms into the island, and the bombing of civilian aircraft in flight, and the preparation of assassination plots on the life of the main leaders of the Cuban Revolution.
