The Angola-Cuba Friendship Association (ASAC) today described the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, as one of the most brilliant men of the twentieth century, in a message sent to him on occasion of his 88th birthday, on August 13.
Fidel Castro, "in addition of having decisively contributed to the freedom and dignity of the Cuban people, played an important role in the struggle to win independence and territorial integrity of many countries around the world," ASAC General Secretary, Fernando Jaime, says in the letter.
He focuses on how the island's contribution had particular incidence in the African continent, with solidarity magnitude in Angola.
Jaime says the Angolan family continues and will continue along with the Cuban people in its arduous struggle against the unjust blockade imposed by Washington more than five decades ago.
The ASAC also sends a message of freedom for the three Cubans who were part of the Cuban Five and remain imprisoned in the United States.
The Five, as they are internationally known, were arrested in 1998, subjected to a rigged trial and condemned to harsh sentences for warning their country from terrorist actions forged in Miami.
Rene Gonzalez and Fernando Gonzalez have already returned to Cuba after completing their prison sentences, but Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino and Gerardo Hernandez still remain in U.S. jails.
