Cuban medical mission serving here exceeded the 2,000 ophthalmologic surgeries performed this year to celebrate the first Joint Scientific Meeting Cuba-Paraguay scheduled for this week.
The hard working group, developing its work in the town of Mary Auxiliadora, Itapúa department, more than 430 kilometers from the capital, restored or improved vision to poor Paraguayan and celebrated, with this result, the Day of Latin American Medicine.
The Cuban-Paraguayan scientific event is scheduled for December 6 with the participation of specialists from the two countries, departmental and local authorities, Paraguayan regional coordinators and the presence of Cuban Ambassador Juan Domingo Astiasaraín.
The program includes presentation and papers on topics related to the exchange and application of ophthalmologic knowledge in the care and support to patients with various characteristics.
After the opening of the important meeting by Dr. Carlos Alberto Perea, head of the Cuban mission, there will be conferences on the Cuban strategy for the prevention of blindness in Latin America and active ocular toxoplasmosis.
The evaluation of the positivity of laboratory tests, the bioethical dilemmas in the doctor-patient relationship and the main statistical results of the work of Mission Miracle in Paraguay will be another of the many issues that calls the attention of the participants.
The unprecedented event will take place at Casa Cuba where members of the Cuban mission work hard and it will represent an important step in bilateral cooperation between experts of the two nations
