The Romerias de Mayo Festival displays today here the photographic exhibition "Fidel, hombre que trasgrede el tiempo," to honor the legacy of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution on his 90th birthday.
Composed of a dozen snapshots, the exhibition, by Cuban artist Alex Castro del Valle, deepen into the figure of one of the greatest thinkers in history.
After opening the exhibition, Antonio Lopez, historian of the Holguin municipality of Biran -where Fidel Castro was born in 1926-, pondered the political work of the Cuban leader in benefit of the peoples of the world, especially for the most disadvantaged people.
Lopez stressed the validity of the words spoken many years ago by Argentine-Cuban guerrilla fighter Ernesto Guevara. He called the eminent politician as "dawn prophet."
Opened in the context of the 23rd Romerias de Mayo, the exhibition stands as a tribute to Fidel Castro, who will turn 90 years on Aug. 13.
Parallel to that exhibition, at the Holguin museum La Periquera, an exhibit by Cuban artist Ernesto Rodriguez, was officially opened. Rodriguez, supported by a technique known as still life, puts together the work of essential men for humanity.
Dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the illustrious thinker and under the slogan "Porque no hay hoy sin ayer," the Romerias de Mayo Festival becomes until Sunday, May 8, the northeastern city of Holguin the capital of the Cuban and foreign young art.
