Cuba, Russia Sign New Accords

Cuba and the Russian Federation increased their economic and commercial relations with the signing of new bilateral governmental and entrepreneurial accords this Saturday.

Ricardo Cabrisas, Cuba´s Vice-President of Council of Ministers, and Igor Ivánovich Sechin, First Deputy Prime-Minister of the Russian Federation, presided over the signing ceremony held at Palco Hotelin this city.

These agreements were on the automobile, financial, nickel and oil industries fields, as well as in the supplying of wheat to the Caribbean nation.

Russian automakers AVTOVAZ and VAZ donated four vehicles each, to be used at health and education facilities in Cuba, a gesture of solidarity in view of the massive damages caused by the passing of hurricanes Gustav and Ike.

Sechin, in his third visit to Cuba this year, pointed out that the agreements open new ways of mutual cooperation and he announced the implementation of new accords in the next future.

Previously Cabrisas, in a joint meeting of both delegations, highlighted that these agreements are a sample of the political will of both nations to strengthen the Cuban-Russian commercial and economic bonds.

Also attending the ceremony were over a hundred Russian entrepreneurs and officials, including Ambassador to Cuba, Mikhail Kaminin.

For the Cuban part, Jorge Luis Sierra, Minister of Transportation, along other officials were present.
