Medvedev, Other Heads of State Express Solidarity with Cuba
HAVANA, Cuba, Sept 4 (acn) Dimitri Medvedev, president of the Russian Federation, as well as other heads of state and representatives of numerous governments, expressed their support for the Cuban people after the passing of Hurricane Gustav.

HAVANA, Cuba, Sept 4 (acn) Dimitri Medvedev, president of the Russian Federation, as well as other heads of state and representatives of numerous governments, expressed their support for the Cuban people after the passing of Hurricane Gustav.
They have also offered their help in the recovery from this catastrophe that affected mainly the western part of Cuba, reported Granma newspaper this Thursday.
Cuban President Raul Castro received a phone call from his Russian counterpart Medvedev and they had a fraternal conversation. Medvedev reiterated his solidarity with the Cuban people. Some hours before, the Russian president had ordered the sending of urgent material aid, which has already started to arrive in the Caribbean nation.
Both parties agreed on the fact that bilateral relationships are at their peak, to which Russian VP Igor Sechin’s visit contributed greatly and allowed them to plan on middle and long term economic relations.
In this regard, Medvedev stated that the priority will be given to the agreements relating to the Cuban electro-energetic system.
On the same vein, Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez has been personally concerned about the effects left by the powerful hurricane and ratified his sincere offer of aid to Cuba.
Alvaro Uribe, Colombia's president, asked about the effects suffered and expressed his country's wish to help.
Several foreign ministers, government officials and ambassadors from China, Bolivia, Argentina, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, Guatemala, the Cayman Islands, Peru, Saint Lucia and East Timor have also expressed their support and wish to help.
