The general secretary of the Yemeni Socialist Party (YSP), Abdul Rahman Omar Al Saqqaf, said Cuban ambassador here, David Paulovich, today his willingness to strengthen ties with the Cuban Communist Party.
The group sent a message of congratulation to President Raul Castro on occasion of the 56th anniversary of the Triumph of the Revolution, wishing "successes in all sectors and reinforcing the historic relations between both parties," a source from the Caribbean country's embassy of said.
The party leader met with ambassador Paulovich in an atmosphere of brotherhood, and both sides ratified the willingness to develop ties between both parties and extolled the result of the bilateral cooperation."
Al Saqqaf was also pleased for the return to the homeland of the Cuban Five and the decision by Cuba and the United States for re-establishing diplomatic relations that he described as "Cuban victory towards the elimination of the blockade."
Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Rene Gonzalez and Fernando Gonzalez, the Cuban Five, were convicted to long sentences at a trial held in south Florida, described as illegal by the relevant UN agency.
Abdul Rahman Omar Al-Saqqaf was elected as general secretary of the YSP in December 2014, during the National Conference convened to reformulate policies and strategies to face the country's current situation.
A new rejuvenated Central Committee with great female participation was elected during the event.
