A meeting of Latin American social organizations will be held in Managua in defense of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas (ALBA) and against the coup in Honduras, announced on Monday the event’s Organizing Committee.
Edgardo García, a member of the Committee, said that over the next few days delegates will hold debates on the Food Sovereignty and the Agrarian Reform in Nicaragua within the context of ALBA, one of the subjects attracting the attention of Nicaraguans amid the global economic crisis.
Representatives from Social Movements in Central America will focus on regional problems on July 16 and 17, while an international meeting in solidarity with ALBA peoples and against the coup d’etat in Honduras will take place on July 17 and 18, the Prensa Latina news agency reports.
Participants will express their solidarity with the great mass of the Honduran population that condemns the coup, and will demand the reinstatement of the government elected by the vast majority of the Honduran people, stated García.
The heroic struggle of the National Resistant Front against the coup perpetrators is an inspiration to all peoples hoping to achieve a real democracy and better living conditions, he added.
He specified that the coup also represents an attack against ALBA and against the social changes taking place throughout the continent.
