The Cuba''s Center for Drug Research and Development (CIDEM), is working on major design lines of nanoscale sustained-action medication, said here today Nicté Gonzalez, CIDEM deputy director.
It also investigates applications seeking to achieve more stable compounds, with greater effectiveness and patient safety, Gonzalez told Prensa Latina during the Fourth Workshop on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology in session in this capital.
Such is the case of a natural product extracted from pumpkin oil that is used in the treatment of prostatic hyperplasia, which works at nanocapsules, which is in clinical trials and pending registration by the regulator, she said.
He added that the CIDEM also has another project with cyclosporine's nanoparticles, an immunosuppressant for transplant patients, which is in industrial phase. It has the advantage of being more bioavailable and decreasing the dose required by the patient, she said.
The 4th International Seminar of Nanoscience and Nanotechnologies concluded today in Havana after four days of intense debates.
It was attended by experts from 22 nations as Russia, Venezuela, India, Serbia, Canada, France, Mexico, Spain, and Japan.
