Nicaragua and Cuba have new bases today for extending their collaboration on meteorological investigations and seismology, through the updating of a bilateral agreement on a wide range of scientific-technical cooperation matters.
The agreement also include topics related to management and preservation of natural resources, particularly in adapting to the effects of climate change, extremely topical issues due to the current global situation, said Cuban Minister of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma) Elba Rosa Perez.
According to Dr. Guillermo Gonzalez, head of the National System for the Prevention, Mitigation and Attention to Disasters (Sinapred), last year, due to Nicaraguan strong seismic movements, the Cuban government agreed to send specialists, establishing a basis for the new agreements between institutions.
The document expresses this willingness to cooperate and will help to strengthen the capability of Nicaraguan Institute for Territorial Studies in different areas of the nation, said the Sinapred's executive secretary.
Bonds of this nature respond to integrity and unity efforts supported by the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA), say authorities.
