A group of young people carries out a cycling tour of Cuba in defense of the five antiterrorist fighters of the Caribbean island unjustly held in the United States, the national press releases today.
The tour, started in Punta de Maisi, in the easternmost Cuban region, is included among the actions to demand the release of Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez, detained in 1998 for monitoring terrorist groups that from Miami prepare actions against their country.
The cyclists, five young people from the eastern Guantanamo province, expect during his tour to visit historical and educational sites.
According to Juventud Rebelde newspaper, the tour includes more than 1,600 kilometers.
Joshua Gainza, president of La Farola cycling club, told the daily that the objectives of the tour is to join more people to the campaign for the release and return to Cuba of the five antiterrorist fighters.
Gerardo, Ramon, Antonio and Fernando are still serving harsh sentences, while Rene was forced by U.S. authorities to stay three more years in that northern nation under supervised release after completing his prison term in October 2011.
