Some 124 cooperatives in sectors ranging from construction to waste collection that start operating as of today are part of the dynamics of the updating of the Cuban economic model.
This is a new way of managing the national economy that begins working experimentally in these associations, a decision supported by the Guidelines approved by the 6th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba, Granma newspaper reported.
Grisel Trista, head of the Business Improvement Group of the Standing Commission for Implementation and Development, told the daily that "we are betting to manage with this measure, in a cooperative way, state activities that have not been efficient.
It also allows the State to go shedding from transcendental matters that are not in the development of the economy."
Of this first group of cooperatives, about 112 emerge from the state sector and 12 from the non-state sector, the latter consisting primarily among self-employed workers.
Of that total, about 99 are agricultural markets based in Havana, Artemisa and Mayabeque, two are recycling and recovery of materials "one in Artemisa and another in Mayabeque, and 12 are related to construction activities, Trista stated.
Six are associated to auxiliary transport services, dedicated to sheet metal, painting, upholstery, crane services and assistance on the road, auto scrubbing, punch and inflating tires, among others.
About this issue, the group chief in the Standing Commission for Implementation and Development, Ruben Toledo, stated that cooperatives are part of the measures that have a significant impact in updating the economic model.
