Canadian writer Stephen Kimber will tour the United States with his book What Lies Across the Water: The True Story of the Cuban Five, after 15 years of imprisonment of those antiterrorist fighters.
The text is the result of extensive research that included the review by the author of more than 20,000 pages of court records of the longest case in the history of the United States, written with a clear and objective narrative.
The tour, organized by the International Committee for the Freedom of the Cuban Five, as Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez are known, seek to reach new audiences and generate interest, so that more people join the campaign for the return of these men to their homeland, and end this long injustice.
From September 11 to 17, Kimber will speak in Washington DC, Maryland, New York (Manhattan and Brooklyn) and Boston, where renowned U.S. linguist, philosopher, and political scientist Noam Chomsky will accompany him, according to a statement released by the solidarity group.
As well as the launch of the book, the program will include in New York the opening of the 15 watercolor paintings exhibition by Antonio Guerrero, entitled "Yo me muero como vivi" (I Will Die The Way I Lived). This work reflects the 17 months the Five have spent in maximum isolation cells, when they were detained in Miami on September 12, 1998.
Hernandez, Labañino, Guerrero and Gonzalez Llort continue in U.S. jails, while Rene Gonzalez completed his sentence in 2011, passed a regime of supervised release and, after a process that entails the loss of his U.S. citizenship, he is in Cuba.
