Cuban First VP Meets World Leaders in New York
Cuban First Vice President Jose Ramon Machado Ventura held bilateral meetings on Monday with the presidents of Colombia, Alvado Uribe; Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo; and Cape Verde, Pedro Pires.

Cuban First Vice President Jose Ramon Machado Ventura held bilateral meetings on Monday with the presidents of Colombia, Alvado Uribe; Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo; and Cape Verde, Pedro Pires.
Machado Ventura heads the Cuban delegation to the High Level Meeting of the 63rd Period of Sessions of the UN General Assembly that opens on Tuesday in New York.
Also on Monday, the Cuban high-ranking official met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and with Miguel D’Escoto, current President of the Assembly.
In addition, Machado held bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of Angola, Algeria and Indonesia.
According to Granma news daily, in the night, the Cuban First VP participated in a rally in solidarity with Cuba at the Intercession Church in Harlem organized by groups working in the campaign for the release of five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters who remain as political prisoners in US jails.
Present in this rally was Rev. Lucius Walker, head of the Pastors for Peace solidarity organization, and also Leonard Weinglass, one of the attorneys of the defense team of the Cuban Five.
During the activity, Machado delivered greetings from the leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro and from Cuban President Raul Castro.
