The president of the Republic of Gabon, Ali Bongo Ondimba, has paid tribute on Saturday to Fidel Castro and Jose Marti at the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery, as part of his official visit to Cuba.
White and multicolored flowers were laid in the sacred tombs by the African leader, who was received on Friday, July 7, in Havana by President Raul Castro.
After paying tribute to both leaders, Bongo Ondimba said that he always wanted to visit this heroic city, where the people have fought so much for freedom and which is the resting place of those great men, patriots who were ready to sacrifice themselves, a value of much significance today.
He expressed his emotion in front of the monolith that holds the ashes of the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, who was a friend of his people and especially his father, who was also the president of his country, as he was always for the Africans, to the point of being himself one more among those who inhabit that continent.
As part of his stay in this city, the president will visit the 26 de Julio Museum, in the former Moncada Garrison, which was attacked by Fidel Castro and a group of young revolutionaries on July 26, 1953. He will also visit the Antonio Maceo Revolution Square, which evokes the leader of the pro-independence campaigns.
