The National Workshop of the Project "Joint Implementation of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions" will open on Tuesday in this capital in the presence of international experts.
The event, to run until Friday at the Melia Habana Hotel, is directed at Cuban experts and officials in the management of chemical products and dangerous wastes, organizers said.
The program includes lectures, plenary sessions, roundtable discussions, presentation of results, and recommendations aimed at developing a strategy and national action plan for the joint implementation of those conventions.
Representatives from the Secretariat of the Stockholm Convention and the UN Environmental Program (UNEP) are attending the forum.
Those conventions respond to a series of international multilateral accords on the environment, whose common objective is to protect human health and environment to face possible damages caused by chemical products in different stages of their life cycle.
In the case of the Stockholm Convention, this focuses on the production and use of chemical products, that of Rotterdam on their trade, and that of Basel on their elimination.
