The Nicaraguan Parliament passed Tuesday a resolution demanding the U.S. government to free the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters held in USA since 1998.
According to the decree read by the first secretary of the National Assembly, Alba Palacios, the requirement is aimed at amending an injustice and allowing the immediate return to Cuba of Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labanino, Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo Hernandez and Rene Gonzalez
The board of Parliament must send this statement to the International Committee for Freedom of the Five, as well as Congress and President Barack Obama, through the U.S. embassy in Nicaragua, says the text.
Deputy Carlos Emilio Lopez recalled that the current declaration is a reiteration of the one adopted last year with the same request to Obama for immediate release of the Cuban Five.
The Nicaraguan National Assembly took up the subject in support of an international campaign of solidarity that is being carried out these days for the Cuban Five, which involved prestigious intellectuals and international political and human rights figures, added the text.
