Cuba will continue promoting the revitalization of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) as a regional organization for consultation, cooperation and concerted actions, when it assumes the rotating presidency, the Foreign Ministry stated today.
The deputy general director of Latin America and the Caribbean of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Zamora stated that the appointment of the Cuba to hold office from 2016 reflects the high level of Cuba's ties with its neighbors and commitment to the region's countries.
In order to broaden and deepen these ties, Cuba will propose at the extraordinary meeting of the Ministerial Council of the ACS, to be held in Haiti next Tuesday, the celebration this year, in Havana of the 7th summit of the organization.
Zamora highlighted the role played by Haiti while heading the organization since 2013, which favored the promotion of the sustainable development in the 25 member countries of this bloc, which also includes other countries as observers and associates.
He informed the debates in the town of Petion-Ville will be focused on the actions to ensure the sustainability of the Caribbean, due to growing concerns about the impacts of climate change and its economic and social impact in medium and long terms.
