The Panamanian jurists'' backing of the universal call for the release of The Five anti-terrorist Cuban fighters held in US prisons was strengthened in an academic forum to discuss their case.

Legal experts, students, diplomats and representatives of organizations of solidarity with Cuba backed the final declaration of the gathering, where several aspects of the procedure followed against The Five.

Participants stressed that it is in the hands of US President Barack Obama to order to withdraw the charges pressed against Cuban patriots Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labanino, Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero and Rene Gonzalez, who have unjustly served 11 years in US maximum security prisons.

They also demanded the end of the "paradoxical impunity" enjoyed by self-confessed terrorists wanted by justice like Luis Posada Carriles and his accomplices.

The forum was sponsored by the University Research and Development Foundation, the University of Panama, the International Studies Association, the National Career Diplomat College and the American Association of Jurists.
