Cuba works to achieve the greatest enjoyment of all rights and freedoms, according to an official report presented to the Human Rights Council, quoted by the national media today.
Cuba will be subjected on May 1 to the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the Council, based in Geneva, an exercise in which the 193 U.N. member countries will participate.
Abelardo Moreno, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, presented the report on Tuesday, while many governmental bodies and civil society participated in its drafting.
Moreno stressed that the purpose of the Cuban Revolution was to promote and defend human rights in Cuba, despite "the existing enormous difficulties such as blockade, aggressions and terrorist actions."
In the last 55 years, no extrajudicial executions, forced disappearances or torture have taken place in Cuba, Moreno affirmed.
The vice minister criticized what he described as campaigns that distort the Cuba reality in the worlds media, "where our achievements are silenced and our difficulties are exaggerated and manipulated."
The presentation of the report was done via teleconference with Geneva with the participation of Latin American diplomats and activists.
