The best way we have to celebrate dates is our relentless fight for life, says Ramon Labañino, one of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly held in U.S. prisons, despite fighting terrorism.
Labañino, who is serving a 30-year prison sentence in Kentucky, sent a message released today through the International Committee to Free the Five, on occasion of the 57th birthday of his teammate Rene Gonzalez, on August 13.
The text also stressed that the Five, as Labañino, Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez Sehewerert are known worldwide, will always be close to the causes that aspire for a better world, in peace.
He also expressed his optimism, respect at the moment in which they will return to Cuba, free and surrounded by all their relatives, people, sisters and brothers of the world. "Sure this will be a great day," he said.
The Five were detained in Miami on September 12, 1998, while monitoring plans by Cuban-origin criminal groups that have operated with impunity from there against the Caribbean nation for more than 50 years.
A UN panel stated in May 2005 that the detention of these men is illegal and arbitrary, but the White House has done nothing so far to resolve it.
