The municipal council of Rosario has decided to grant a Diploma of Honor to the Argentinean Movement of Solidarity with Cuba, MASCUBA, in that city, "in recognition of its commitment to the Cuban Revolution and the fraternal ties between our people."
The project presented by councilor Pablo Colono was approved as a decree by the local governing body of Rosario, in Santa Fe province, where the National Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba in Argentina will be hosted in late November, Prensa Latina reports.
The provision emphasizes that the examples of friendship and solidarity from Rosario to Cuba even date to before Cuba's revolutionary triumph in 1959.
In turn, the council praised MASCUBA for being a driving force in the dissemination and recognition of the revolutionary ideas of Ernesto "Che" Guevara, for its admiration of the humanistic project of the Cuban Revolution, and for its dedication to strengthening friendly ties between Cuba and Argentina.
The Cuban anti-terrorist fighters who were arrested and subjected to an arbitrary judicial process that resulted in long prison terms in the U.S., as recognized by a legal UN committee, were also mentioned.
One of them, Rene Gonzalez, has already returned to Cuba after completing his sentence, while Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, and Gerardo Hernandez remain in U.S. prisons.
The Diploma of Honor for the Municipality of Rosario will be delivered to MASCUBA at a date and place yet to be determined.
