EU Praises Cuba Advantages for Foreign Investment
The European Union (EU) praised the advantages of Cuba for foreign capital investment, central theme of the 32th International Fair of Havana which ends today, due to the education level of its workforce, geographical location, image, international recognition and growing regional integration.

The European Union (EU) praised the advantages of Cuba for foreign capital investment, central theme of the 32th International Fair of Havana which ends today, due to the education level of its workforce, geographical location, image, international recognition and growing regional integration.
Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the block in Havana, Hernán Portocarrero said at a press conference that they are ready to support the island in this effort as part of the updating of the Cuban economic model.
Relating to foreign investment and business opportunities presented by the island he said that in the Caribbean this activity is very competitive, so the country has in front of it great opportunities and great challenges, in which European companies can be with.
Portocarrero said also that it is an attractive activity in infrastructure, energy and other projects that will depend on the potential of large companies, so it would have to wait for the decision and the interest of European business.
Talking on the prospects of this opening he indicated that foreign investment will mean not more exports or balance of trade between the two parts, but to expand the Cuban presence in foreign markets, job creation, and transfer of technology and diversification of supply products with higher added value.
He recalled that the EU is the largest investor in Latin America, and what it meant in the Cuban case is reversed with respect to the environment, labor and legal rules.
In his exchange with reporters at the 32nd International Fair of Havana (FIHAV), the representative of the European bloc stressed that Cuba has many advantages because any of its products may quickly attain international recognition.
Within the cooperation projects to encourage a largest Cuban presence in the European market, Portocarrero mentioned to prioritize the agricultural production, in order to increase its productivity and performance to replace, that way, the high volumes on food imports.
In assessing this edition of FIHAV he considered it a time of many contacts and signing contracts, so it can not be just a social event but of results for the Cuban economy in the interest of establishing companies and joint projects.
The European Union has maintained a steady trade with Cuba to become his second partner, trailing only Venezuela, with exports of mineral fuels, food, beverages and snuff, while imports are concentrated in machinery, transport equipment and chemicals and manufactured products.
