Havana’s International Trade Fair Ends Successfully
The 26th International Trade Fair of Havana (FIHAV 2008) concluded
successfully on Thursday night with participants closing business
agreements worth $ 350 million.

The 26th International Trade Fair of Havana (FIHAV 2008) concluded successfully on Thursday night with participants closing business agreements worth $ 350 million.
During the closing ceremony of the event at the Convention Center, the president of the Organizing Committee, Abraham Maciquez, praised the results of the fair in spite of the almost-fifty-year-old economic blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba.
Likewise, he referred to the enormous damages caused by hurricanes Gustav and Ike, which hit the Caribbean nation last September. He noted
that in spite of all the devastation that the two hurricanes left behind, the country decided to hold the fair as an expression of the spirit with which the Cuban people face the recovery tasks.
Products from Cuba, Spain, Germany, Brazil, China, Italy, and Venezuela won gold medals during the event while the First Prize of Integral Communication was for the Cuban Telecommunications Company ETECSA.
Other awards were granted in the categories of design and advertising, among others.
The closing ceremony was attended by Ramiro Valdes, Minister of Information and Communications; Jose Ramon Fernandez and Ricardo Cabrisas, vice presidents of the Council of Ministers, among other government officials.
