Meeting of ALBA Culture Ministers Begins on Friday

The Culture ministers from the member countries of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA) regional integration and cooperation bloc meet on Friday in Caracas, Venezuela, also with the participation of representatives from Ecuador and Paraguay as guests.
According to Prensa Latina news agency, the meeting, whose main goal is to assess multilateral projects of integration, is part of a cultural campaign that began last Wednesday with the presence in Venezuela of outstanding Latin American intellectuals who participated in three forums discussing topics such as the global crisis of capitalism and the challenges of today’s world.
The Culture ministers from Cuba, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Honduras, Dominica, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Ecuador and Paraguay, will also visit several places in Caracas to learn about the work of more than 500 art instructors from Cuba and Venezuela working on a social program of the Venezuelan government to promote culture.
Speaking to reporters in Caracas, Cuban Culture Minister Abel Prieto recalled that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, signed an agreement for the setting-up of the ALBA Cultural Fund, which showed their outstanding commitment to culture.
The Encounter of Intellectuals on the Crisis of Capitalism continues on Friday with the forum ‘Peoples against Consumerism’ with the participation of 400 Venezuelan intellectuals and guests from Mexico, Bolivia, Colombia and the United States.
