Members of the Association for Ecuadorian Students' Parents in Cuba honoured Cuban National Hero Jose Marti Friday, in the 159th anniversary of his birth and were grateful for the humanist education their children are receiving in the Caribbean island.
After they were at a ceremony for the placing of a flower offering to Jose Marti in an obelisk in Quito, Galo Velez, president of the Association, told Prensa Latina that it is a duty to give homage to Marti, a man who is as much admired in Ecuador as Fidel Castro and Raul Castro.
However, Velez approach to the Cuban Revolution did not start with the possibility for his son to study in Cuba.
"I have always love Cuba. I have followed the Cuban Revolution throughout all these years, and I know what Fidel, Raul and the Cuban people in general have fought for," he said.
Arturo Galarza, a man whose daughter is studying General and Integral Medicine in Cuba, showed himself satisfied for the education her daughter is receiving.
Cesar Guelfa, who was carrying a poster showing images of General Eloy Alfaro, Ecuadorian independence national hero, and Marti, remembered the friendship between these two heroes.
Others such as María Teresa Carrera, president of the Association in the Ecuadorian province of Pichincha, Yaquelin Suarez, a woman who has her two children studying in Cuba; Rosa Guaman and Mario Hernandez, are fully sure Ecuador will change, with the return of these young people to work on the local society.
A total of 1,800 Ecuadorian youngsters are studying in Cuba, mostly at the Latin American Medicine School.
