Russian Students Celebrate 50th Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution

A series of activities in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution began this Monday at a school in Moscow, and will be later extended to other educational institutions, including Russian universities.
The initiative, called "What do you know about Cuba?" seeks to promote interest in Cuba and Latin America, reported Prensa Latina.
Project coordinator Liudmila Kondrachova said the series of activities are part of a wider program created as an initiative of the parliamentary group of the Just Russia party.
Kondrachova said the half-a-century anniversary of the Cuban revolution that triumphed on January 1, 1959, was a good reason to start promoting an interest in Cuba and boost the feeling of friendship towards the "island of liberty."
The first programmed activity took place at the 2033 school, where students presented papers on what they have learned after several weeks of studying Cuban history and geography, and the island's achievements in education, healthcare, culture and social security despite the US economic, financial and commercial blockade.
