Doctor of Historical Sciences, Master of Studies on Latin America, the Caribbean and Cuba and specialist of Archeological Sciences Leal again impressed this universal site of Education, Science and Culture in Paris.
I don’t believe this honor is less than any other received primarily because of the place, the day and my own time of life, which is one more point on the road, he commented.
For me it is very important to reach this day because the dialogue between the cultures, the meeting of civilizations in such a complex world in which it is our fate to live, deserves this moment, said doctor Leal.
With supreme elegance he responded to the words of Francoise Riviere, deputy director general for Culture of UNESCO who did not hesitate to qualify the project of Old Havana as "the “epicenter of creative experience in world heritage."
Ecologically balanced, socially just, economically viable and culturally diversified is what UNESCO seeks with these programs, Riviere explained referring to the masterly conference offered by Leal entitled: Historical Center of Havana, a model of integral management, a unique experience.
In addition to the Decade Medal he was given a "few years late" the diploma for the historical center of the Cuban capital as Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 1982.
