Uruguayan FM Highlights Cultural Legacy Significance

Culture is the best way to present a country, said today Foreign Minister of Uruguay, Luis Almagro, who is scheduled to end a visit to Cuba tomorrow.
During a meeting with President of Casa de las Americas, Roberto Fernandez Retamar, Almagro said culture is very rewarding for the human being and constitutes a direct means of communication.
According to a Cuban Television report, Retamar recalled Uruguayan writer Mario Benedetti, who was director and founder of the Literary Research Center of "Casa" until 1971.
On Monday, Almagro met with his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodriguez, at the Cuban Foreign Ministry, where he extolled Cuba's solidarity with Uruguayans through the tough years of military dictatorship.
He described Cuba as the most generous country in Latin America through decades, and highlighted Cuba's role in many main struggles in the continent and beyond.
Cuba and Uruguay established diplomatic relations in September, 1902, interrupted in 1964 through 1985 and again in 2002, though they maintained their consular relations.
On March 1st, 2005, they renewed the links, currently described as positive.
