The emblematic Velasco cinema-theater, in which celebrities such as Tito Guizar, Jorge Negrete and Libertad Lamarque performed, will celebrate its centennial with film screenings, lectures, and other cultural activities.
Celebrations begin today with the premiere of the film "Conducta" (Behavior), by Cuban director Ernesto Daranas. The film deals with human relations, double dealing, family, respect for differences, and violence, the Provincial Cinema Center in Matanzas stated.
The center will also screen the Swiss-Cuban documentary "Yo se de un lugar" (I know a place), about the music and life of Kelvis Ochoa, an overview for the time of this singer and songwriter, who is praised by testimonies from many prominent musicians of the island.
Velasco, with almost more than 600 seats, is a regular host for screenings from the Latin American New Cinema Festival, and is located in this city about 100 kilometers east of Havana, called the Athens of Cuba in the 19th century as a result of its cultural development.
