Lebanese Economy and Trade Minister, Alain Hakim, today accepted an invitation to visit Cuba in June leading a delegation of businessmen, who are willing to initiate investment projects in different areas.
Hakim received the general director of investment at the Cuban Ministry for Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment (MINCEX), Deborah Rivas, in Beirut. She gave him a letter of invitation sent by the Minister of MINCEX, Rodrigo Malmierca.
During the meeting with Hakim, attended by the Cuban ambassador to Lebanon, Rene Ceballo, the official discussed opportunities her country can provide to the Lebanese business sector on the new stage of foreign investment opportunities and renewed diplomatic relations with the United States.
Rivas is participating in the 2016 Lebanese Diaspora Energy Conference, along with Mirtha Rippes Aller, head of Investment Promotion Group at the Chamber of Commerce of Cuba (CCC), and Juan Carlos Oliva, an official of MINCEX.
In statements to Prensa Latina, she stated that she had discussed the challenges the island faced attracting foreign capital and business opportunities from the Lebanese.
During the business forum conducted in Beruit in October 2015, Malmierca presented an investment opportunities portfolio of 246 projects, valued at $8.7 billion USD.
