The net proceeds from the downloads of a re-release of the 1972 anthem "Give Peace a Chance", by British singer John Lennon will be donated to the United Nations Peace-building Fund.
Yoko Ono, who co-wrote the song with her late husband John Lennon, had arranged to donate income from the 40th anniversary digital single to the Peace-building Fund, which allows relatively quick funding for targeted projects.
The widow of the British singer had arranged to allow the net proceeds from downloads of the re-release to go to the Fund, from November 3 until December 31, 2009, same sources said.
The funds will go to the countries on the Commission's agenda, Sierra Leone, Burundi, Central African Republic and Guinea Bissau, as well as some 14 other nations that were emerging from conflict.
Yoko Ono has been a fundamental moving force behind this donation to the United Nations peace building efforts.
She said that "Give Peace a Chance" had been inspired by John Lennon's off-the-cuff explanation to a reporter about why the couple was protesting the Viet Nam War. The song included a chorus of some of the best-known peace activists of the time.
