Cuba's Council of State, at a proposition of President Raul Castro, granted the "Jose Tey" Medal to families who ceded their houses to be used as a classrooms after the lashing of hurricanes in 2008.
The distinction will be granted to those families in recognition of the outstanding labor to the Cuban educational development, according to the accord published by Granma and Juventud Rebelde newspapers.
The document states that the delivery of the Medal will be delivered on November 30 in the locality where awarded families are living, on occasion of the 53rd anniversary of the fall in combat of Jose Tey.
Jose Tey Saint Blancard was born on December 2, 1932 in western Santiago de Cuba, and died on November 30, 1956 at the age of 24, during an action of support to the landing of the Granma yacht.
