Machado Ventura Meets with Vietnamese Vice President

Cuban First Vice President Jose Ramon Machado Ventura met on Thursday in Havana with visiting Vietnamese Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan.
Both officials expressed their satisfaction with the state of bilateral relations and agreed on increasing trade. They also discussed matters of regional and international interest.
On behalf of the Cuban people and government, the Cuban official thanked Vietnam for the assistance sent after the devastation caused by hurricanes Gustav and Ike.
Also present in the meeting was the Vietnamese minister of Labor, Disabled Veterans and Social Security, and president of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, along with the president of the Union of Vietnamese Women, Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa; the first vice minister of Foreign Affairs, Pham Binh Minh; and Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Vu Chi Cong.
Cuba was represented by Fernando Remirez de Estenoz, head of the Foreign Relations Department at the Central Committee of Cuba’s Communist Party;
Yolanda Ferrer, General Secretary of the Cuban Women’s Federation; and Bruno Rodriguez, a deputy Foreign Minister.
At the end of the meeting, the Vietnamese vice-president handed Machado Ventura a donation of US$ 300,000 and pledge of 300 tons of rice.
