British Foreign Secretary William Hague confirmed that his government follows the case of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly held in the United States, the Campaign of Solidarity with the Caribbean nation in the United Kingdom (UK) reported.

Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino and Rene Gonzalez were detained in 1998, for monitoring activities by violent groups against Cuba based in south Florida.

In a letter addressed to legislator Harriet Harman, Hague acknowledged that the British embassy in Washington is closely monitoring the situation regarding the right of Olga Salanueva and Adriana Perez, wife of Rene and Gerardo, respectively, to visit their husbands.

The U.S. administration denied 10 times the two women the right to visit their husbands, as well as permission to receive visa to enter the United States.

We are aware of the concern existing in the UK about the right of Salanueva and Perez, said the foreign minister as a result of the pressure from thousands of members of the solidarity campaign, activists, local groups and workers' unions.

About 126 legislators of all British political parties have signed a parliamentary motion in support of the Cuban Five, in which they defend the right of the spouses to visit them in U.S. territory.

Detained for preventing actions such as those which in the last 54 years have left more than 3,400 victims in Cuba, the Five were condemned to long sentences ranging up to two life sentences plus 15 years more in prison, in a process internationally denounced due to its numerous irregularities.
