Chilean political intellectuals stressed today the transcendence of thinking of the Cuban independence leader Jose Marti, to whom they described as a inspiring source for Latin America.
Magaly Matus, director of the Chilean-Cuban Culture Institute, told Prensa Latina that for 20 years the entity she leads has paid tribute to Marti every January 28, the date of his birthday.
On the other hand, Cesar Bunster, member of the central committee of the Chilean Communist Party and head of the International Relations department, said Jose Marti expresses the synthesis of the desires for independence and sovereignty of the region.
Every time we remember the Cuban national hero we notice that his wisdom and reflections go beyond the passing of time, and his word is a guide for the Latin American peoples, Bunster told Prensa Latina.
In turn, Chilean surgeon Carlos Lagos, president of the Coordinating Committee of Solidarity with Cuba, stated that the new international context makes Marti's ideology more relevant.
We celebrate the purpose of Cuba and the United States of restoring diplomatic relations, but as we have heard of Cuban leaders, the way will be long and complex. So, we could not forget Marti's legacy, she said.
Several Chilean organizations paid tribute to Jose Marti yesterday, on occasion of his birthday, during a beautiful act held at this capital's central Plaza Italia.
