Thanks Namibia, was the phrase repeated by the five Cubans who were held in U.S. prisons for fighting terrorism after summarizing their stay in this African nation, where they were welcomed with innumerable tokens of affection.
During a news conference held last night, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez referred to the special feeling of love by the Namibian people to the island, something that is reciprocal, they stressed.
The Acting Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Peya Mushelenga, who accompanied them throughout their stay in Namibia, issued a statement in which he demonstrated what the visit of the Cuban heroes represented for the country.
He also told the press that President Hage Geingob extended them an invitation to return soon to Namibian soil.
We have received the warmth of the Namibian people and the Cubans who are working here, we have received the gratitude of the Namibians, Fernando Gonzalez stated.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Gonzalez said they feel very honored that the first president and father of the nation, Sam Nujoma, devoted them a part of his time.
Before, in statements to Prensa Latina, the also vice president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) stressed that this has been a very nice and fruitful stay, with great solidarity.
The Cuban Five concluded this second stop of Africa -before they visited South Africa- taking the love by the Namibian people and their authorities.
During their stay in this southern territory, they also had the presence of Andimba Toivo ya Toivo, a legendary fighter and father of the Namibia-Cuba Friendship Association.
The Namibia's Parliament was the first that adopted a resolution in favor of the Cuban Five, something it did twice.
And according to Prensa Latina, the country will host in February a continental solidarity event with Cuba.
They are traveling today to Angola, last stage of this African tour, the first they do together outside Latin America.
