The visit this week to Cuba of a delegation of the Netherlands put on the table a promising future for Cuban economy and business in which many companies rely on.
Precisely, high-level representatives of dutch companies expressed their confidence in the evolution of the islands economy and the incentives expressed by this archipelagos authorities.
Such opinions were ratified even during the signature of an agreement and in the sessions of a business forum at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba.
The European trade mission evaluated common interests and perspectives that had their beginning with an agreement to invest by multinational Unilever.
The visit that extended from Januarty 10 to 13 was headed by the Minister of Foreign Trade and Cooperation for Development of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (Holland, Curazao, Aruba and St. Marteen), Lilianne Ploumen, accompanied by representatives of 77 companies of relevant sectors.
The business forum at the Hotel Nacional had an efficient approximation for a work that should render many more fruits over the next few years.
As a preamble, Ploumen was at the Zone of Special Development of Mariel (ZEDM), where she participated in the official ceremony of authorization of the Cuban government to the constitution of the mixed enterprise Unilever-Suchel S.A.
During its stay, Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez, received Ploumen in a meeting where they examined the bilateral agenda, besides expressing the will of both parts to promote links in areas of common interest.
At the Hotel Nacional business forum, first deputy minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, Antonio Carricarte, referred to the need of widening and diversifying the islandâ�Ös trade partners and stressed the potentialities of the Netherlands, placed among the 10 most important exporting world economies.
Ploumen showed interest in strtengthening bilateral ties in different areas, centered in sustainable development and a responsible business activity as well as in the political field.
At the venue, the president of the Cuban Chamber of Commerce, Orlando Hernandez stressed the existence of over a dozen dutch subsidiaries in Havana, while exhorting to increase that participation through the creation of mixed enterprises.
Almost at the end of the visit, Viceminister of Foreign Economic Relations of the Netherlands, Guido Landheer, told the media that the businesspeople had a chance to know about mutual business opportunities.
Landheer said that the Exchange focused on priorities for the development of Cuba, as is the case of hydraulic resources, food production and renewable energy sources.
