Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said here today during the reception of his Jamaican counterpart, Arnold Joseph Nicholson, that bilateral ties are a priority for Havana.
According to Rodriguez, the visit of Jamaica's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade confirms the historical ties between the two nations, as well as the current dynamism of some ties they develop in health, education, sport, energy, fisheries and iron and steel.
At the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry, Rodriguez thanked Kingston Jamaica's support of the fight against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba for over half a century.
In his speech, Rodriguez also highlighted the current regional scene, marked by the creation in late 2011 of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, a block that gathers 33 countries.
Meanwhile, Nicholson, who arrived Sunday and leaves Wednesday, reiterated the support of Jamaica for the end of the blockade against Cuba.
He also appreciated the assistance provided by Cuba for years in sectors such as health and sport.
