The U.S. blockade against Cuba must end immediately because it constitutes a dangerous violation of human rights, Ecuadorian Deputy Foreign Minister Marco Albuja said here.
In remarks to Prensa Latina, Albuja claimed Washington to comply with the resolutions adopted by the U.N. General Assembly that has opposed to that economic, commercial and financial siege in 20 consecutive occasions.
It's not fair that one country can impose its will on an overwhelming majority of nations that claim to lift the blockade, the Ecuadorian deputy minister said during a visit to France.
In 2011, some 186 countries voted in favor of the cessation of that unjust policy that, up to December 2011, has caused losses to Cuba of more than $1.066 trillion dollars, considering the depreciation of the U.S. dollar against the value of gold in the international market.
The Cuban people are suffering the unjust punishment the United States has imposed upon it, he said.
On November 13, the U.N. General Assembly will vote on the island's report about the negative consequences of the blockade.
Not only the United Nations, but also in other international forums, Ecuador is quite beside the Cuban people, the deputy foreign minister said.
Albuja chaired the Ecuadorian delegation to the second session of political consultations with France, in which he discussed bilateral and multilateral issues.
His visit was part of a tour that also included Russia and Belarus. The objective is to strengthen ties, deepen political dialogue, and discuss new cooperation agreements.
