Cuban President Raul Castro conferred today the title of Republic's National Hero and the Order Playa Giron on Vice President Jose Ramon Machado Ventura.
Raul Castro conferred both awards on Machado Ventura, who is an outstanding revolutionary, during the commemoration of the 55th anniversary of the Frank País Second Eastern Front's founding, in Santiago de Cuba.
After being agreed by the Council of State, the decorations received the unanimous support of the Cuban Communist Party's Political Bureau and the People's Power National Assembly (Parliament).
I will do everything in my power to honor these awards, Machado Ventura said, and ratified his commitment to the Revolution.
The Frank País Second Eastern Front is a demarcation of about 12 square kilometers introduced by Raul Castro when he was commander of the guerrilla against the army of dictator Fulgencio Batista.
