The National Coordinator of the Venezuela-Cuba Mutual Friendship and Solidarity Movement, Jhonny Garcia said here today that the restoration of Cuba-US relations represent a victory of the people of the Island.
The opening this Friday of the US embassy in Havana after more than half a century of hostility towards the island is perceived in the world as a recognition of the firm, unwavering and united position of Cubans and its political leadership, he added.
He noted, however, that the re-establishment of embassies does not mean an automatic normalization of relations between the two governments. The conditions for the normalization of ties is not given until the criminal blockade remain, which has tried to kill the Cuban people of hunger and disease, hindering its finances, trade and economic development, he asserted.
He pointed out that this strategy has done nothing but to strengthen the spirit of struggle and resistance of the Cuban people, an attitude which, he insisted, allows to sit down today with their historical adversary in conditions of equality and respect.
Along to the lifting of blockade, the United States must cease its policy designed to destabilize and overthrow the revolutionary process of the island for which it has made used from the armed attacks until assassination attempt to its leaders, and subversive propaganda with the use of new technologies.
Those relationships can not even reach a happy end if Cuba does not receive back the sovereignty over Guantanamo's territory where United States have a naval base and a depressing jail where human rights of citizens worldwide is violated, he added.
The historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, the current leadership and Cubans in general remain today radiating the liberating ideas on the continent and the world, therefore, the are an uncomfortable example for the big centers of hegemonic power.
