The strategic vision of the Cuban leader, Fidel Castro (1916-1926), his willingness to sacrifice and humanist vocation were remembered today at the opening day of the Havana International Book Fair.

The colloquium 'Fidel, Politics and Culture' served as scenarios for researchers and intellectuals to debate on the evolution of Fidel Castro´s thinking and how he managed to materialize it through his actions.

Fidel designed a new project based on popular armed insurrection and had from the very beginning a readiness for sacrifice and even for giving his own life to the revolutionary process, researcher Mario Mencía said.

Mario Mencía also delved into the symbiosis of thinking-praxis in the Cuban leader as 'The History will Absolve Me'. This essential document, where he gave expression to his thinking, turned out to be the first anti-imperialist program that successfully marked an end in the long process for Cuban liberation.

On the other hand, the Canadian Arnold August, specialist in Cuban law and society, spoke about Fidel Castro´s appropriate importance to popular political power.

The Cuban leader fought for the human rights, and access to health, education, culture, sport, as well as the implementation of a society where racial and gender equality should be paramount, he said.
