The president of the National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament) of Cuba, Esteban Lazo, ratified the country's position in support of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) in a message released here today.
 
Regarding the recent 45th anniversary of the proclamation of the SADR, the parliamentary head recalled the strong ties of friendship that unite both peoples in a letter sent to Hamma Salama, president of the Saharawi National Council.
 
The text ratifies the invariable position of Cuba in the search for a solution to the question of Western Sahara that guarantees the exercise of the legitimate right of the Saharawi people to self-determination.
 
Lazo thanked the solidarity received in the battle that the Caribbean nation has waged against the economic, commercial and financial blockade from the United States for more than 60 years, and expressed his willingness to continue strengthening bilateral ties.
 
Regarding the date, Miguel Enrique Charbonet, president of the Cuba-SADR Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Antillean legislature, also sent a congratulatory message to his counterpart in the Saharawi National Council, and ratified the permanent commitment of solidarity support to that people .
 
For his part, the director general of Bilateral Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Emilio Lozada, praised the historic relations of friendship, brotherhood and solidarity between the two governments.
 
These, he said, consolidates 'faith in important principles, such as unity and resistance, intrinsic to our revolutions and conquests.'
 
Cuba and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic established diplomatic ties on January 21, 1980, five years after the proclamation of the independence of the nation, located in North Africa.
