Meeting of Young Pianists to perform again in Cuban concert halls

The Office of the Historian of Havana city is currently preparing the 6th Meeting of Young Pianists, a cultural space for Cuban and foreign pianists.

This meeting, devised a decade ago by professor Salomon Mikowsky and historian Eusebio Leal, will feature seven students of the US Manhattan School of Music in this edition at the best halls for classical music in this capital.
 
At a press conference, the organizing committee reported that the 19 concerts with an orchestra, recitals and master classes will be performed by 14 pianists from nine nations, including Russian-American Kirill Gerstein and Greek Katia Skanavi.
 
Other foreign pianists are Chinese Guangshou Tian, South Korean Yeontaek Oh, Russian Alexandre Moutouzkine, Ukrainian Inesa Sinkevych and Egyptian Wael Farouk; as well as Cuban pianists Marcos Madrigal, Ernesto Oliva, Daniel Rodriguez and Sofia Iraola.
 
This event’s curators included classical piano pieces, the premiere of pieces by renowned composers such as Leo Brouwer, Ernesto Oliva and Inesa Sinkevych and a selection of Cuban pieces by Roberto Valera and Jose Maria Vitier, among others.
 
At the opening ceremony, slated for today, at the Minor Basilica of the Convento San Francisco de Asís, French violinist Chloé Kiffer will play Havanaise, dedicated by its author Camille Saint- Saëns to Cuban musician Rafael Diaz 135 years ago.
