Cuba is always working to strengthen and expand relations with Argentina, stated Party First Secretary and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, upon receiving Jorge Neme, deputy chief of the nation’s cabinet, who is leading an official delegation to the island. He was accompanied by the sister country’s ambassador in Cuba, Luis Ilaregui.
Díaz-Canel conveyed affectionate greetings to President Alberto Fernández, and all friends of Cuba in Argentina, while recognizing the role of the South American nation in the island's battle against the U.S. government's blockade.

He thanked Argentina for its work as pro tempore presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), and its demand that no country on the continent be excluded from the upcoming Summit of the Americas.
Both leaders agreed that the visit was very positive and should lead to more progress in a number of cooperative projects related to agriculture and the agri-food industry, renewable energy, the biotechnological and pharmaceutical industry, and to commercial trade.
Diaz-Canel also reiterated Cuba's position supporting Argentine sovereignty over the Malvinas, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands.
